Water Well Drilling FAQ

Q. Estimating the cost of your well?
A. The cost of your well will depend on the under-ground formations encountered while drilling.

Q. How deep will my well be?
A. Well depth will vary greatly depending on the location, elevation, and also the under-ground formations. Meehan Drilling can estimate an approximate depth for a well based on experience of drilling in the local area.

Q. Will my water be good water?
A. Well water is spring water. Some water may contain iron, hydrogen sulfide gas (sulphur), or be a hard water, or have a low PH, all of which can usually be filtered. Most wells we drill don't require any filtration at all.

Q. How long will it take to drill my well?
A. The average well generally takes one or two days.

Q. What areas Meehan Drilling cover for Domestic and Commercial Supplies?
A. For commercial well drilling Meehan Drilling cover all areas of the U.K. and Ireland.

For domestic well drilling we cover the following areas:

  • Louth
  • Meath
  • Monaghan

Q. Grant availability in Ireland?
A. Grants are available from County Councils in certain cases for the drilling of a Water Well. Some requirements for successful grant application include that the house must be at least seven years old and you do not have a mains supply near by.

The value of the grant is 75% of the cost of completed works up to a maximum of €2,031.58.
